Iraqi Youth Leaders Exchange Program

Israel in the Middle East

ISIME Executive Director, Shaul Gabbay at the University of Denver, is happy to announce that the Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East is eagerly joining the Iraqi Youth Leaders Exchange Program this summer.

Iraqi teens will spend August 9 at ISIME on the University of Denver campus.  Plans are underway to include our guests in meaningful presentations about Israel in the Middle East.  We are also working diligently to have Iraqi students interact via satellite with Israeli students in the Negev.  “This is a tremendous opportunity to build bridges,” explains Dr. Gabbay.  “I seriously doubt that Iraqi students have ever been able to speak with Israelis, as the countries have generally been in a ‘state of war’ since the beginning of the Jewish State in 1948.  This promises to be a life changing experience for all involved.”

Twenty-five Iraqi students will be welcomed in Denver for two weeks.  Students will take daily classes in citizenship, community development and civic responsibility.

HOST FAMILIES ARE NEEDED to house these students in Denver from July 29 through August 11, 2007.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Denver families.  “So often we get discouraged and wonder what EACH ONE OF US can do,” says Pam Solomon of ISIME. “Here is an opportunity to bring an Iraqi teenager into your home and show them personally what America is all about.” Qualifications for host families include adult supervision and travel to Parker daily for classes in English and American culture and government.  Families with teenage children will be given first priority.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO BE A HOST FAMILY, please contact:
